I stumbled into AI and Robotics as a 12 year old in 1997. Simultaneously, my father (who likes anime) and I started watching *Ghost in the Shell*. It hit me hard in so many ways. And as I grew into a professional over the following 12 years, my ponderings lead me to this conclusion: The GitS universe is most likely the future of whatever technology I build. And I will feel utter disgust with myself and the world around me when it does. I will still build tools to help make everyone's lives easier, more comfortable, happier, and longer. But I cannot spend my energy to prevent the cyberpunk dystopia from coming to fruition because I cannot control how people will use whatever I create. I cannot hide my talents and skills from the world, nor do I wish to. I can only pray that, like the atomic bomb, Humanity finds a way to turn it into something as productive as a nuclear reactor power plant. Or, at least whatever it becomes.
