They’ll settle into niches. Google will continue to capture the casual search market. Think people without subscriptions that want answers like “should I take my cat to the vet”. OpenAI and Anthropic will fight for the enterprise market. Think day to day automation tasks too expensive for humans and too complex/risky for in-house solutions. Open source will fill every other gap. Technical solutions that require fine tuning, AI solutions that rely on proprietary and protected data, personal AI too risky for vendors, everyday power users, and companies with competent enough teams to manage the risk of hosting AI by themselves but where it provides a competitive advantage. It’s almost certainly going to behave the way operating systems did. Linux is still king even if most non-technical users don’t see it in their day to day.
