Logically speaking you're wrong. There is two ways of defining new concepts: either you strictly define what it is, or you strictly define what it isn't. Therefore defining it's boundaries is strictly equivalent to defining what it is. Also, you're confusing logics and semantics debates. Debating what the word *soul* encapsulate is only semantic: just give a new word for animal soul and say that regular soul is a subcategory of the animal soul, now the debate of what the properties of the animal soul are stays the same and we havent progressed a single bit, we've just swapped words. Now debating what *the thing we call soul* is and whether it exists or not is a legitimate philosophical and scientific debate.
