Desktop hardware guy here for 17 years. Kinda hoping for this so it just drives my stock value up over the next 10-20 years. The guys younger than me in the field… just don’t “have it”. I was molded by the foundations of IT which makes my troubleshooting and decision making in the field seem so simplistic to me because it used to be sooo difficult back in the day. It was my advanced LEGO or erector set. Build it. Break it. Build it back better. Whatever you want to call this, I have yet to come across a younger nerd who can figure things out without having their hand held the whole way before their anxiety kicks in or just sits there waiting to be told what to specifically do. No intuition, proactiveness, real troubleshooting skills, drive to learn and tinker, etc. Not to say they’re not out there, just haven’t seen any myself as of late and I feel like my gen is one of the last of this and it’s one AI won’t really be able to take over.
