GenAI LLMs are scraping at a staggering rate. So anything posted without a robust paywall can just be ingested by the competition. Since everything is monetized (ad revenue) having exclusive "OC" is literal money. Having control of a narrative, also money.
Getting held accountable down the road for misinformation hurts the bottom line, sooo....money.
