This is something that gives me horrific anxiety and dread. The natural world, this planet we have always lived on and always will without escape anytime soon, is not something thaf can just be magically fixed. We cannot invent a magic solition to the trilliona of tons of carbon dioxide we have pumped endlessly into our atmosphere. The thing almost all life breathes. What the fuck are we doing? We are already seeing a nightmare heatwave in the US. The logic of capitalism is going to get millions and millions killed, not to mention the already in progress mass die off of animals. Economies in South Asia suffered from the oil shortage recently… not just because of gasoline becoming too expensive for workers and bussinesss. It’s because businesses could no longer afford to cool their offices or restaurants or buildings. It was TOO HOT to run restaurants. Think about that. Think about how many animals are currently struggling daily to survive the heat, find clear water or any water, get enough food when plant life also suffers from the resulting droughts. We have built hell and in the heart of empire, the US, we do not even PLAN FOR THIS FUTURE. We have NO DISCUSSIONS by ANYONE in places of power regarding how we will deal with this global climate holocaust. And these companies are burning natural gas, wasting ungodly volumes of water and energy, just to keep this make believe economic boom going a little longer. We are about to see just how much we and capitalism have absolutely failed to serve the interests of the people. Even the capitalist class. Their dollars will be of no value. Their staff will not have loyalty when this system collapses and their families struggle and go hungry. They will be held responsible more than anyone else. They could be taking a leadership role and at least directing all these bright minds they employ to work on these insane AI ventures to instead tackle the practical future needs of climate catastrophe.
