In 20 years we’ll hear a repeat of the “COBOL Story”, where the now-retiring pool of pre-vibecoding engineers gets smaller and smaller and there is a desperate demand for people who actually understand How Things Work ™ to please please come fix our system because it’s too expensive to have an AI rebuild it but actually it’s just too complex and we cannot figure out how to feed all the business requirements into an AI and actually build something that works.
