I was talking to my wife about this yesterday. I think we've reached a point in society where this type of thing is never effective anymore. For corporations to be impacted by this type of thing you need to have a large amount of people who a) are principled, b) motivated by the same cause, and c) aware of what's going on. The amount of people motivated by any cause (i.e saving democracy) is always far outweighed by the number of people who just don't care enough to do anything about it. Therefore, companies don't suffer from their actions anymore. That means you can have people like Musk doing things daily that historically would have ruined the brand and tanked the stock without ever having consequences. Just not enough people care anymore. So even if there is a significant amount of people who cancel chatgpt, there won't be enough to outweigh the benefit they get from a deal with the government. There's just too many people out there that don't pay attention or do and just don't care enough to stop paying for chatgpt.
