This. For one thing, the main reason the next gen LLM are in the labs still is because they’re not fully ready. What they have partially works, and when it does work it’s basically ASI, but something isn’t ready for production yet so it stays in build. But the engineers see what’s coming, thus the cryptic public announcements. The rate of competition - with open/Chinese models too now, not just US frontier - means things can’t stay in the labs waiting if they’re ready. But: I and others are pretty sure Anthropic has a partially-working ASI in house rn.
