From the Associated Press: The Department of Defense’s move to label Anthropic a risk to the nation’s defense supply chain will end its up to $200 million contract with the AI company. It will also, according to the Pentagon, prohibit other defense contractors from doing business with Anthropic. It's not like the government paid them the $200 million up front, they signed a contract to pay them $200 million for work they ask them to do. So likely they received some of that money, depending on what work they did and what the payment schedule was. So not performative because they will lose out on the rest of that contract. And the government is trying to prevent any business that does work for the Pentagon from using Anthropic by calling them a supply chain risk, so they will also not be eligible to even contract work for those companies.
