This is the current issue that we're dealing with a lot in higher education. That professors are using "AI detection" tools that they've been sold by some snake oil salesman that do not do a great job detecting AI. I want to say the AI detection tools say that something like 50% of the Great Gatsby is written by AI. Much like you said, we have no perfect solution. We're seeing a backwards slide by some profs back to the blue book, hand-written only essays in class, which just makes me sad as it's kills so much progress, and more importantly, trust, that had been established in the classrooms since COVID.
