I really think all this doom and gloom about fertility rates is overblown because people don't consider the fact that we only seem a few decades away at most from drastically increasing life spans. We've already demonstrated some significant life extension (30%\~) in mice and promising upcoming treatments for cancer, artificial organs and artificial wombs (which could also increase birthrates). Lots of work to do to get things to humans but lifespan increases really seems inevitiable at this point within a few decades. Having humans living significantly longer in a few decades alongside current birthrates would just lead to disastrous overpopulation. Imo there's much more pressing issues we need to focus on like new economic systems when AI and human like robots replace most of peoples' jobs. Very skeptical that issue alone isn't just going to get completely fumbled by governments worldwide and collapse society and make everything else moot.
