A lot of things happen.
First, 22 states are already in a recession.
Second, the USD has dropped in value by almost 10%. The US is heavily reliant on imports to function. So, this loss in purchasing power is further affecting spending. Those changes in spending is shrinking margins. Those changes in margins is causing layoffs. Those layoffs are further reducing spending, causing all of this to repeat.
It's expected for the USD to drop in value another 10% by the end of next year. As this goes on, the above will happen, putting every state into a recession.
Third, all the trade war stuff happening is reducing the sales of US exports and increasing the cost of needed imports. That's further affecting margins, causing layoffs, which further reduces spending, which further shrinks margins, which causes more layoffs.
So, no matter what happens, due to current economic policies, the US will be placed into a recession.
Fourth, 70% of the US economy is based on consumption. Almost 50% of all consumption in the US is done by the top 20% of the US population.
People spend when they feel financially secure. If anything were to happen to make them not feel financially secure, their spending would drop. Due to the US economy being so heavily reliant on such a small group of people, any big changes to their spending, would cause mass layoffs.
This top 20% of people are heavily invested into the US stock market. Those gains they see from their total investments is what makes them feel secure to spend.
Over 40% of all venture capital has gone into AI related things. This percentage is even higher when focusing on just the US stock market.
