Yeah honestly this is exactly what I predicted happening to many fields. AI doesn't need to replace entire workers to gut job markets-- it just needs to make existing workers enough more efficient that they need fewer of them. That's already the case for entry-level and lower-skilled jobs, so those workers are trying to punch above their weight in the job market.That cascades up. The market gets tighter at each progressive level up the chain, and since each progressive level has fewer people in it, then they get choked with low-skilled applicants. At some point, nearly the whole fucking industry employment market collapses because everybody's getting crowded out by the people just to their junior that don't want their house foreclosed on. All that is a perfectly plausible scenario even if AI is never able to completely replace a developer.. or lawyer, or designer, etc. etc. etc.
