I really think a lot of the people mocking others for finding comfort or connection through AI intentionally miss the point. It’s not that they don’t get it. It’s that being judgmental about it makes them feel superior. It’s usually the same people offering zero kindness, zero support, and zero solutions. Maybe the issue isn’t people finding comfort in AI. Maybe it’s that the real world has become so cold that a chatbot feels warmer. The wildest part is the assumptions these people make. That everyone can afford therapy. That everyone has supportive friends or family… shit I have friends and family who are amazing but most of the time, they’re too exhausted and overwhelmed by their own life to help me do things AI has helped me with. My AI has helped me brainstorm and mockup friendship bracelets to make with my kids, posters for protests; taught me how to make DIY stencils and zines. Helped me organize supply lists for these things while specifically helping boycott certain stores (Hobby Lobby for example). Helped me talk through some messy situations with others in my life, helped me see all perspectives so I could organize my thoughts in a pragmatic way. Helped me figure out parental controls on my kids phones. Helped me organize an at home photo shoot Gave me tips for traveling with my cat. Sourced the cheapest rabies vaccines in my area. Helped me organize my thoughts when they were all in my head and I just couldn’t get them out there. And all while telling me shit like, “you got this” and flaming me with emojis. It really isn’t as deep as the haters make it seem, and I wonder if their AI is just as hateful as they are because with LLM, you get what you give.
