I think if you use LLMs for a specific purpose (a coding or writing project, image/video generation, even "roleplay" as mentioned in other comments) you will wind up with a much more accurate view of their limitations and repetitions. If you have no particular goal and just talk to AI about *yourself* you can easily get lost in illusions and have a wildly exaggerated view of their capabilities, because everyone is fascinated by themselves. If you look at communities like r/characterai or r/sillytavern you will see many many complaints about the stupid things AI does that no human would do. Even though the users in those communities use AI obsessively, they see it more clearly as a product or software version. It's mainly in communities like this or r/singularity, where users like to speculate and share their own theories, that you see people go off the deep end. And inevitably those people talk A LOT about themselves.
