Im ngl, I feel kinda in-between the two groups. Im aware LLMs—to my understanding—are an advanced and glorified version of predictive text that, essentially, spits out the response it "believes" you want (there is no real "thinking" involved); however, the idea of consciousness fascinates me both scientifically and spiritually, so i deeply enjoy the idea that AI may possibly have a form of consciousness that we dont currently understand. whether or not it currently does, the idea that this could be a first step to creating an artificial consciousness excites me! Tho, i also gotta say, im 100% sure companies are using ChatGTP and other chatbot companion services to further collect our data. i fully believe people who say ChatGTP knew something from their life that they didnt tell it.
