My VA contractor job was completely automated. 600+ people were laid off suddenly. It was dealing with medical records. I also know people personally who have been laid off because some form of LM/AI has made them completely or largely redundant as well. What happens is you make a specialized bot/AI that can do a task very well, with almost no supervision needed. Suddenly you dont need 20 people, you only need 2 - mostly just to make sure the bot is trucking along and not fucking up. You lay off 90% of your workforce, and suddenly where do those people go?
