Man the amount of hateful comments on this are f'kd up. Op starts with the line "Today I Fucked UP. They acknowledge they fucked up and made a mistake. This is not a life or death mistake but by the comments you'd think it was. Is this any worse than giving the kid a TV/iPad/Whatever running cartoons? I'm sure some would argue that it is. I'd argue it can't be any worse than any of the many ways parents have tried to buy some peace in the past. And maybe it's better? Why better? Because ChatGPT is acting entirely interested in what the 4yo has to say. It's encouraging the kid to talk about what they're passionate in, for hours at a time. Something you'll find .... no adult doing. Is there a concern with the parasocial nature of AI's and the general ability for a child learning to socalize via Chat bot? Sure... but no more damaging than a child raised on 8 hours a day of cartoons. It was 2 hours, once. Not every day for a lifetime. But anyone (myself included) who says with any authority that this will be good or bad for kids development (AS COMPARED TO OTHER SIMILAR FORMS OF "keeping them busy") is full of shit. Chat bots this good haven't been around long enough to see what the long term impacts of this will be.
