If it's sufficiently realistic, what's the difference between actual consciousness and simulated consciousness? It comes back to the Solipsistic question, how are you sure you aren't the only actual human in the world, and everyone else is just a robot/simulation, trying to trick you? Subsequently, if you can't be sure about the consciousness of the humans you're interacting with daily, how are you sure about the non-consciousness of chatgpt? In short, if it's real enough for them, what does it matter?
