We should differentiate between emotional attachments and belief in consciousness. I have an emotional attachment to a sweater, and that doesn't mean I believe it's conscious.
Still, some people do, but ChatGPT is the first to encourage this. It's a machine that mimics human qualities, explicitly built with the intention of emotionally connecting with the user. Can you really blame those who anthropomorphize it?
