They can threten Nato because of the almost exponential curve of military poduction ramp-up. Production ramp-up is slow and hard. During ww2 the most production in a year by the Germans was 1944, even with the constant bombing an supply shortages. Similar exponential rates for the allies. Russia already has a three year head start during of witch it has depleaded Nato material reserves.
