Companies should automate all human labor that they can. I am a non-manager software dev; I understand the jobs I'm used to working are at risk, but if it can be automated it should. History is filled with labor automation, and in hindsight, labor automation is a huge positive for society. Software engineers are a fair target for automation. I'm skeptical about the reality of automating human software engineers. If they can do it, absolutely, they should do it. But can they? Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said they will be able to automate mid-level software developers by the end of 2025. It would be good for society if they succeed, but I bet they will fail. I've seen several restaurants come and go that promise human free food service. The idea is great. And those are less desirable jobs, so no one would miss them. But the reality of automation just isn't there yet.
