Sure buddy.
AI research has been going strong for 30 years and recent breakthrough with large language models have effectively beaten the Turing test (most people can't distinguish them from humans).
These tools are poised to be very useful. And not "very soon" or "it's coming". They're here now. People are using them in their jobs and schooling to just do the heavy mental lifting for them. There are major changes on the horizon.
Major players like Microsoft and Google are in a panic at being upstaged by a hip new tech firm, and they're desperate to slow down their competition. So they've been calling for regulation, asking Congress to tell OpenAI to just stop while they catch up, and one of them is likely behind the near-coup with Sam Altman's firing.
People within OpenAI are likewise concerned about how it's going to change the world. Some have very serious concerns about how it couple be used for ill will. They also might just be making up some bullshit to jump ship to another company for oodles of money. What needs to be controlled, how it's controlled, or if it can be controlled are still very much unknowns.
I don't really trust any of the players here to be wholly good and altruistic looking out for the good of humanity.
>when I can expect the Skynet uprising
Never. That's Hollywood poisoning your mind with lazy writing to make a fun action flick.
