These big AI companies are desperate for regulations. Lots and lots of red tape. Companies like OpenAI, google, apple, MS, etc want the regulations to require a full time staff of 100s and eventually a year or more to get your AI approved for public consumption. Also, they want fines of about 1-5 million regularly issued. This way, upstarts simply can't afford the process, and if they do will be killed by their first fine or two. The problem with this sort of regulation, is you can't have a record of people saying that things are bad. These execs need to go into congress and talk to other feds, where lying can get you sent to "pound you in the ass federal prison". They need to put their hands on their hearts and say, "We have no evidence that our AI is anything but pure as the driven snow." There is a second tier problem they are facing. Uncensored AI. While some of the AI's proclivity to political correctness may stem from the extreme left views of those who are making them, the reality is that these brand name companies can't tarnish their reputations if their AIs speak uncomfortable truths, or just downright disgusting things upon request. The reality is that the imposition of these politically correct philosophies weaken the AI's ability to provide the responses people want. Writers will want to have characters who are fascists. Companies will want to war game the effects of bad actors. They will need to ask, "Give us the top 10 ways to attack our company?" or "What is the worst thing an insider can do to this company?" "How to kidnap or harm our top executives?" or any of many whitehat security questions which are also blackhat security questions. This means that competitors will be well encouraged to offer uncensored AI tools. And, things like the porn industry will clamor for the most ribald and potentially stomach churning AI video and photo tools. It doesn't matter if you agree if these tools should or should not exist.
