FTFY. Most movies are derivative garbage whether you've got digital or film cameras. There have been tons of super cheap movies made (some for as little as $7000-$50,000) on film and tons of super cheap movies made with digital. Cameras are expensive, yes, but nowhere near as expensive as filming locations, catering, your cast and crew, and whatever CGI you can afford.
You're right about AI though. Until we get actual thinking machines, just about everything that AI shits out will be complete and utter garbage.
