My greatest fear for AI is that it will replace human workers just slowly enough that not enough people will get upset about it at the same time. And a few new human jobs will be created (though not nearly enough to replace all of the eliminated jobs), and many will use that as an excuse not to expand the social safety net or expand it just enough to keep most people living in survivable poverty.
