Under capitalism, automation takes jobs. This is part of why the labor movements of the late 19th century got started. Under another economic system, which prioritizes people and cooperation over profit and wealth accumulation, things could be different. Automation and AI could reduce the number of hours we work and give us more time to do what we want to do. Instead, it will be used to accelerate wealth accumulation for the people already at the top. Because, at least in the US, we are not allowed to consider that a life after capitalism is possible.
