Previous professional work experience in a different field is a positive! At the very least, that previous experience can bring in new/different perspectives which can be helpful and, in the case of sales experience, it shows that you're capable of working well with other people. Programming professionally is about people just as much as it is about code. Programmers who understand that will be the most successful especially as the use of AI becomes a bigger part of our job.
