It is a great idea. We just don’t know if it will be adhered to in practice.
It is a great idea because it keeps a human on the controls. Limiting the risk of an AI powered miscalculation leading to a nuclear launch.
As the only real benefit of AI is to speed up your ability to counter a strike launched at your nation.
