This happens in the US too although to a lesser degree and interns move to a different industry or IT. This is because, despite IT being a horrible occupation, IT people have immense value and respect in businesses that want to remain competitive and profitable. There's a middle grouping ..or middle class.. of tech jobs that doesn't exist in countries with rigid, inflexible promotion systems based on educational class. The US is unique in this regard because all of our IT and software is commercial and not tied into state-backed conglomerates or universities. This also makes the American tech sector far more aggressive and predatory towards customers.
