The problem is that it wouldn't just lose people that one particular job. As soon as a job becomes competently replaceable by AI, that job will no longer exist for a human in the entire industry. Like, as soon as a customer service agent can be replaced with an AI agent that will work for free, never lose patience, never get tired or stressed... That's it. Customer service is no longer a job humans work. Tech support.... same deal, but 10x more efficient because they can just have an AI remote in to the system and directly read the state of things and fix whatever the issue is. Boom, no more tech support. Corporate IT and Sysadmin stuff.... you'd need like two guys to physically deploy hardware and that's about it. I'm sure anyone reading this could come up with a near bottomless list of other examples. We might be about 5-7 years from a world in which most jobs that don't require hands aren't ones humans are eligible for. We're not there yet, but there's a whole lot of motivation from people with very deep pockets to make this happen.
