>AI can only use pictures scanned in to understand the faces it's seeing. The shadows in your face are important for identifying contour and seeing what your face actually looks like. Darker skin naturally blends in with shadows more and when many of the pictures scanned into the machine are blurry, it's not surprising that it'd make these mistakes. It may not be intentional but it's not completely accidental. Black people aren't a newly occurring thing...we've been here for awhile. So when these tech companies designed flawed software like this because tech is overwhelmingly white and male, sure you can say it's not intentional but let's not pretend that this isn't a known problem.
