Ironically, I have a similar story. I had a friend many years ago who was pregnant and a picture of her. When I got a new job I had a coworkers who looked spot on, identical, to this pregnant friend of mine. I mentioned she looked identical to my friend and wasn't taken seriously so I showed her the picture. My coworker thought I had photoshopped her. She refused to believe anyone else in the world could look exactly like her. I hate to admit it but the world is filled with dopplegangers. Facial recognition is not enough to lock someone up. Maybe make them a suspect, but far from solid evidence. This includes eye witnesses. It's common to have many people look not just alike, but identical. The fact that the police officer found an 8 year old photo of her to get an eye witness match shows the actual criminal and the pregnant woman don't look that much alike, but would have if they were not 8+ years apart in age.
