If Putin is still doubling down measuring dicks this foolishly given his current state of affairs, he's more prideful than smart. People that know him call him a gambler, not a genius. A bluffer.
That to me is compatible with the idea that he will prioritize projecting strength in the short term over a winning strategy. And that will manifest as a sudden, shocking collapse of his efforts when he can no longer prop it up.
