I’m not a dev but I’m a tech recruiter and that sounds sussssssss. I’m a big fan of generative AI like ChatGPT and think it can be used in tandem but one of the things that worries me about the integration within engineering particular production of code is A.) generative models like chatgpt are meant to be convincing not accurate and B.) AI can hallucinate or simply make stuff up that isn’t true. Hope that your company is using an AI strategist and has a clear GTM as it may backfire depending on the type of work your company does. My firm also uses pair programming and intends to incorporate more AI tooling into our engineer teams and GTM. But not in a fully paired capacity that you’re describing. I think your concerns are valid. However I think too many companies will jump on AI without a structured strategy and quickly learn they still need IRL engineers to deliver quality long term. The quicker folks adapt and integrate AI into their core practices the more competitive they will be in the workforce and more jobs tailored to this emerging field will appear. (Please note I’m not super technical so be nice to me plz😂🥲)
