That’s an interesting point actually. I assume most people would like to know when AI becomes conscious because we’d want to put guidelines in place to protect a conscious entity but should that even matter? There are a lot of animals that we may not define as conscious but that we have laws to protect.
Also - we don’t even know how to define consciousness so it almost feels like a moot point.
