The people that say don't use it are people that don't understand how it works. It's prompt-driven and is meant to be iterative. If it spits out bad code, part of why is because your prompt was not clear and specific enough. You can continually ask clarifying questions until you get what you need. That's no different than the previous process you were using without it, except now, instead of asking yourself those questions and scouring the internet for days, hours, weeks, trying to cobble together working code snippets, ChatGPT will do it for you in a few minutes. If you're not 10x more productive with it, you're using it wrong. Can you just be an average joe that never programmed before and use it effectively? Of course not. Just like I can't just take a job as a structural engineer, ask ChatGPT how to build a building and expect to get anything close to what I need. That's not my domain so I wouldn't even know what clarifying questions to ask or whether or not the answers are correct. But it's much easier to recognize the code you need than it is to think up that code from scratch. It's like the difference between answering open-ended questions vs answering a fill-in-the-blank or multiple choice question. It's a big difference. And that's what ChatGPT allows.
