That isn't a theory. That is the plot of some books. Roko's Basilisk. Basically we cheer the Basilisk or the Basilisk goes all "I have no mouth and I must scream" on us. The book is literally called Roko's Basilisk. It can't even really be called a distinct thought experiment, as its just a reimagining of Pascal's Wager which is "You have nothing to lose by believing in God, but if god is real you have everything to lose". Only instead of God we have an AGI. I'm not really sure why people would be afraid of AI. All the ones I've met have been alright.
