Current gen AI isn't dangerous because it's some super-intelligent Skynet. It's dangerous because it's about as good as common Joe is at many, many "common Joe" tasks.
Next gen AI, on the other hand? Remains to be seen. If the pace of AI advances holds? Oh boy.
I wouldn't say that "unbounded sci-fi / Hollywood type" is out of picture. It's just not in the picture *yet*.
