The main problem here is not the capabilities of the AI, but more that truth in media was never a big item on the agenda in politics. Journalism is officially a Pilar of democracy - but under capitalism it is also a business and like all businesses it will give their clients what they want (right leaning celebrity gossip) and since they can be bought why not use them to give the message that i want (Murdoch). What countries made being able to spot fake news a larger issue? What countries made sure that commercial interests and political gain did not influence the independence of the media? I only heard about one of the small Baltic states who turned spotting fake news into a television game show - they are bordering on Russia so here is why. The fairness doctrine got canned by mostly the republicans and now you all got ~~QAnon boot camp~~ fox news. Europe mostly has more diversity in news sources because there are more parties, but in most countries there is a large christian minority whose political parties don't do anything hat might inform the people that they are not doing a good job regarding climate etc.
