AI has indeed made giant leaps in the last decade but there's every indication that it's only the beginning. AI research is on a roll and progress is only expected to accelerate. What particularly worries AI scientists are the prospects of fully autonomous killer robots. Imagine. Not present-day drones, which only shoot when instructed towards targets set by a human, but a borg-like 10-thousand strong army of smaller, individual drones, each carrying explosives or machine guns, ordered to destroy an enemy target. *Mistakes? But China is unlikely to comply, and every dictator ever will sell their firstborn for such an army. With such an incentive, killer robots are a matter of when, not if.
