We have the power, intelligence and capacity to develop moral and ethical behavior. We sit back and marvel at our ascension and our dominance and yet we consistently abuse our position of power in the most abhorrent ways. We let down non-human animals in the billions every year.
It's not about whether we consider them equal, it's that we must respect their right to live their lives autonomously, or interact with them in a way where we are not the chief benefactor.
