I get the feeling most of the commenters didn't read the article > The company has paid $3,500 to Bogdan Kulynych, a graduate student at Switzerland’s EFPL university, who demonstrated the bias in the algorithm, which is used to focus image previews on the most interesting parts of pictures, as part of a competition at the DEF CON security conference in Las Vegas. The algorithm in question *only* covers image cropping, but reading some comments you'd assume that Twitter was serving content based on that criteria. Besides, any active Twitter user would tell you that the cropping algorithm is flawed regardless of how it prioritizes people. So I doubt that it's a reflection of society as many of the comments seem to claim.
