So instead of learning from others mistakes just repeat it. Definitely a interesting perspective, I would agree if they pivoted away once they could support themselves.
Also investing in all these old industries and relying on them will eventually haunt them due to the cost of greener alternatives becoming cheaper than traditional manufacturing/ energies. Plus we see with the US that once you have existing infrastructure it's way more expensive to replace or upgrade it once it's there.
