I love your analogy. And just like with slavery, where it persisted even after it was generally accepted as evil and took decades to disappear from the Western world, so too is the case with fossil fuels. It'll take time to transition to clean energy, but simply allowing "developing" nations to pollute indiscriminately (especially considering newer and cleaner technology is available) is beyond ridiculous.
