To address some of the "rebuttals" against India made by many of the comments I've been reading. 1) "It's not our fault Indians are breeding like rabbits" India has ALWAYS been one of the most populated regions on earth - and India's current TFR is around replacement rate. 2) "Aren't they a top emitter too?" India's current emissions per capita are far lower than most developed nations. If you count historic emissions (which is basically who has done most damage to the climate), then India has emitted only an 1/8 of what the US has - despite being far more populated. 3) "India is so polluted though!" There are different types of pollution. Air pollution (smog) is NOT the same as greenhouse gas emissions, and while the air quality in India is terrible that does not contribute to the climate problem. Same goes for garbage on the streets/polluted rivers in India - those are problems too, but they are a different issue than the climate.
