It seems to me that the arguments are tainted due cultural norms. Considering whether or not a thing can feel pain and suffer is absent the environmental reshaping of natural truths based interactions with cutler, nature and belief. But when I say belief, I’m speaking of what we consciously chose is worth valuing. If moral worth is rooted in the ability to suffer and feel pain, what is the standard of the “we”? It seems to me that you find yourself back in an “only the strong survive” utilitarian mindset. I say that because some have the ability subvert the impact of pain because of cultural practices and belief systems. The better question is will pain have utility in the AI? How would that affect moral standing?
