I'm seeing a lot of comments here that seem to miss the point of banning private use.
Imagine every ring and nest camera having facial recognition and that data being sold to law enforcement. The point of a ban like this would be to stop a private sector to law enforcement facial data market.
Yes there would still be use of facial recognition. Like has been said, you can't ban math. But it would help the prevention of a massive surveillance network in private hands.
Obviously government use of facial recognition should be banned as well.
