I work in data science/ machine learning and am fully diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Adderall. You absolutely can succeed. Its not like this guy says. Yes it is easy to burn out. Finding the right company is key. Yes people are on things a lot. My principle engineer is high from smoking week for 6 out of 8 hours a day. Unfortunately people abuse substances. In my opinion it is just a little more blatant in CS because people feel more indispensable if they are good engineers than like an entry level finance guy. The job isn't only testing. I build cool shit all the time. Train new models, design new architectures for how to communicate and pass huge amounts of data between applications at scale, make new interfaces for customer interaction with our machine learning solutions. And then other days I sit in meetings for 6 hours while on reddit as the VPs argue about letting and wording for a particular page on our website. (No idea why I need to be on these calls) Again. There will be interesting things and boring things. Find a job with a balance you can live with. If it is too much meetings and testing... find another job. PM me if you want more advice or help
